Crawler access, discovery, and permission are different

Understand robots directives and the limits of controlling machine access.

Discovery is a technical choice

A clear sitemap, internal links and readable HTML help compliant systems discover public pages. A robots.txt file communicates crawler instructions; it is not authentication and does not protect confidential material.

Publish deliberately

Use access controls for private content. Decide whether public material may be crawled, indexed and reused; those are distinct questions. Evaluate current crawler documentation before adding user-agent-specific directives.

Keep legal rights separate

Technical availability is not a licence to train on or redistribute a work. If you offer licensed datasets, state the rights in a separate agreement rather than assuming a robots rule communicates all commercial terms.

This site’s implementation

The public content is static and readable without JavaScript; tools progressively enhance it. The sitemap lists this site’s canonical pages.

Use this as a preparation framework. It is not legal advice, a valuation or a promise that a buyer will accept your data.
