Verify the collection and the counterparty

An evidence checklist for diligence on both sides of a proposed licence.

Sources and guidance · Reviewed October 2026

Check authority

Identify the signing entity and person authorised to act. Ask for ownership evidence, collection history, rights restrictions and any existing exclusive licences.

Check integrity

Use manifests, checksums, counts and reproducible samples to make the delivered collection auditable. Record transforms and exclusions.

Check the buyer

Confirm its legal identity, allowed users, security process, evaluation terms and payment obligations. Establish a written contact and escalation route before transfer.

Use this as a preparation framework. It is not legal advice, a valuation or a promise that a buyer will accept your data.
